The 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic is a pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The disease was first identified in Wuhan, Hubei, China in December 2019. wikipedia.org




  • First case: December 1, 2019


  • Symptoms: Initial flu-like symptoms, such as fever, coughing, breathing difficulties, fatigue, and myalgia

  • Incubation period: 1-14 days

  • Mode of transmission: Human-to-human transmission via respiratory droplets

  • Prevention tips: Avoiding close contact with sick individuals; frequently washing hands with soap and water; not touching the eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands; and practicing good respiratory hygiene

 

          COVID-19 is a new Coronavirus first detected in the Hubei Province in China in December 2019. With thousands of confirmed cases in China, the novel coronavirus has spread internationally to South Korea, Japan, Italy, and others, including the United States. International health organizations continue to learn more about this virus, including development of vaccines. 


          The World Health Organization officially classified COVID-19 as a pandemic on March 11, 2020. Broome County is working closely with state and federal health agencies to monitor the spread of the disease and act decisively to keep Broome County safe and healthy.
